Circles

There are quite a few adventurers in Murgulmuir. So many in fact that they are effectively a caste unto themselves. It was clear to the powers that be early on that some provision had to be made so avoid requiring the guard to question everyone with arms or armor. The solution was allowing bands of adventurers to register with the guard as a Circle.

Any group of 3 or more can Register as a Circle if they have the following:

  • A name (Garlon's Sabers).
  • An emblem (a Saber crossed with a baguette).
  • A recommendation from at least one of the recognized guilds.

When a Circle registers they are expected to submit a roster of members with an address for at least two of them. They are expected to keep this roster updated but its hard to enforce that rule.

Members of a Circle who travel together (at least in groups of three or more) wearing their emblem openly are less likely to be hassled by the guard. It makes it a lot easier to operate in the city while wearing armor, carrying weapons and using obvious magic. Naturally this only goes so far and not every group of guards knows every emblem so it helps to operate primarily in one neighborhood and to get to know the authorities there. Bribes never hurt either.

In game terms, groups are expected to form a Circle not long after reaching 2nd level and certainly before reaching 3rd. Not every adventuring party becomes a Circle but most do.
